Three strategic main directions

Statkraft's position and expertise form a solid platform for further growth. We will strengthen this platform and grow further in three main directions:

  • Industrial developer in Norway
We will contribute in the development of Norwegian partially-owned energy companies, develop renewable energy, cooperate with the industry on energy contracts and efficient use of energy, as well as increase investments in research & development.

  • European flexible power producer
We will increase our presence in Europe, both as producer and as market player.

  • Green global developer
We will grow within international hydropower, increase investments in wind power in the North Sea area and establish a basis for growth within solar power, marine energy and osmotic power.

Industrial developer in Norway

Statkraft aims to be a driving forcein the development of the Norwegian energy industry, and through this work create profitable jobs and contribute to meeting the need for more pure energy. We will manage and further develop the significant assets inherent in the hydropower plant in a responsible manner.

Our ambition is:

  • To increase hydropower production including small-scale hydro, wind power production and district heating production.

  • To increase innovation and R&D investments in order to support profitable growth within renewable energy.

  • To actively cooperate with Norwegian and foreign universities within innovation and R&D.

  • To work actively to help meet the industry’s need for stable, long-term electricity supply on commercial terms and conditions, and to cooperate onenergy recovery.

  • To contribute to an efficiently operated and organised grid structure in our partially-owned power companies with high focuson security of supply. Any new structural changes within grid require support fromlocal and regionalownersand will have to be based on partially-owned energy companies.

  • To support partially-owned energy companies in their focus on profitable investments within more environmentally friendly energy production anda secure supply of electricity to their customers.

European flexible power producer

The combination of flexible hydropower with large water reservoirs in Norway, flexible gas-based power in Germany and major European trading activities enables Statkraft to assume the mantle of a European flexible power producer. This means that we, with our flexible production and market understanding, can contribute to supply the market with environmentally friendly energy during peak consumption periods or periods where the production from non-flexible power plants, such as wind farms, is low. New power connections out of Norway can contribute to improve thesecurity of supplyfor areas with a high share of wind power production and be a foundation for increased value creation from flexible Norwegian hydropower plants. Statkraft will therefore prepare for a more integrated European energy market by further developing integrated market operations and increasing the flexible production capacity in Western Europe.

Our ambition is:

  • To expandourtrading and origination activities within energy and CO2

  • To bid for French hydropower licenses up for renewal in coming years

  • To expand activities in the UK by establishing market operations

  • To develop new gas power capacity to meet the need for flexible production in Western Europe. The geographical priority will be Germany, the UK, France and the BeNeLux countries

  • Asses the feasibility of new cable connections out of Norway and of investments in increased capacity in existing hydropower plants and new pump storage facilities between existing reservoirs where conditions are favourable

Green global developer

There is a great need for the development of more renewable energy to meet the world's climate challenges, and increasingly stringent requirements for sustainable energy solutions are expected. Statkraft therefore wants to establish a strong niche position in international hydropower and within other renewable energy sources in Europe. The most important instruments in thisrespectareourownership in SN Power, ourinvestment in hydropower in Southeast Europe and Turkey, the investment in wind power in Scandinavia, the UK and the North Sea basin, the solar power investment and the R&D work within new energy technologies such as osmotic power, offshore wind power, wave and tidal power.

Our ambition is:

  • To grow further through SN Power in selected countries in South America, the Himalayan region and Southeast Asia, as well as Africa and Central America

  • To increase the focus on wind power to become a significant player in land-based wind power, primarily in Scandinavia and the UK, andwithinoffshore wind power in the North Sea basin

  • To develop hydropower in Southeast Europe and Turkey

  • To grow in the field of solar power through development, construction and operation of solar power plants. The prioritised geographical areas are Italy and Spain

  • To establish expertise and growth options within osmotic power and marine energy sources such as tidal power
